All-Terrain Tyre

All-Season Tyre

All season tyres have been created to offer great traction all year round, without needing to change your tyres between summer and winter. They do this by combining the best elements of summer and winter tyres, to give you an excellent choice for most weather conditions.

All-season tyres are a good choice for many drivers, especially those in urban areas that see moderate temperatures and occasional snow or rain. They provide an excellent balance of handling, fuel efficiency and ride comfort.

However, if you live in an area that regularly experiences extreme cold or heavy snowfall, we wouldn’t recommend all-season tyres as they are less suited to those conditions and may wear faster which could compromise grip on ice or in deep snow. Also, they may not handle as well in dry or wet conditions compared to dedicated summer tyres.

All-Weather Tyre

If you’re looking for a passenger car tyre that delivers excellent grip in almost any condition, all-season tyres are an excellent choice. They are durable and offer strong performance in wet, muddy and snowy conditions, and also handle dry roads well.

All-season tyres have grooves that help reduce aquaplaning and a rubber compound that’s designed to resist hardening in hot weather. They aren’t as good as summer or winter tyres when it comes to performance, but they offer a solid mix of strengths.

You can find all-season tyres that have a ‘M+S’ or 3 Peak Mountain Snowflake symbol, which means you can drive on them in moderate winter weather (in some countries this is a legal requirement). This makes them an excellent choice if you want to avoid the hassle of changing between summer and winter tyres. They’re also cheaper than all-season and winter tyres, which can save you money in the long run. They also provide a quieter ride and more mileage.

Winter Tyre

If you live somewhere that has very cold winter weather, it’s a good idea to fit winter tyres to your car. These tyres have deeper and more widespread grooves and narrow cuts (called sipes) designed to create more movement of the rubber in the tread, to better grip the road.

In addition, the rubber compound is softer and designed to grip snow and ice much more effectively than conventional tyres. Even with modern electronic stability control and traction systems on cars, the driving performance of your vehicle still relies on the tyres you choose.

It’s generally recommended that you switch to winter tyres once the temperature drops below 7°C, and then return to your all-season tyres in spring once temperatures rise above that. You can also choose to buy all season tyres that combine the technologies of summer and winter tyres for a more balanced all-year tyre choice. However, these tyres won’t perform as well as a tyre specifically designed for each season.
